A small light

We're still getting new lighting fixtures sorted out here.  Some are brand new and some are new to us.  I mentioned in an earlier post a fixture I purchased at the ReStore.  That one is painted, rewired and ready to go up.  I'll have photos of the fun of fixing that once I know it will actually light up!
Here's a smaller success story.

When the electricians started (holy cow, 4 months ago), the pulled down every ceiling fixture in order disengage the old knob-and-tube wiring and upgrade us to current code wiring. In some instances, they had to put in fixtures where none had existed.

This light was one of the new to-Code ones; plain socket and bare bulb at the top of the basement stairs. Among the fixtures they pulled down (and that I didn't donate to the ReStore), was this little guy. I don't remember where it was originally - maybe the vestibule or the bathroom. It was very pitted and a shiny gold color that you can see on the underside (I forgot to photograph a proper 'before' photo of the top).

I bought some Krylon spray paint in Oil Rubbed Bronze, scuffed up the gold finish with some sandpaper and gave it a few coats.

Made a trip to the electric supply store to get a replacement ceramic socket. The old one easily unscrewed to take with me to ensure I got the right thing. And the first salesperson in the store said, "no...they don't make those anymore". Thank goodness I asked her to find out the proper name for the socket so I could Google it. One of the older salesmen said yes, the supply desk should have them. They did, though without the "pigtails.  Our electricians left me wire for my projects; looked up on-line that the black (hot) wire attaches to the gold screw and the white wire to the silver one.

Everything assembled and ready for Greg to replace that ugly bare bulb.

I have a second one: same base painted a different color and with a different glass shade ....trying to decide if we'll put that one up somewhere too.
